Year 3 Highlights 25.4.25
This week in Year 3 we have launched our next topic all about the Romans!
In English, we began our new unit using the text - Escape from Pompeii. We explored the haggling in the streets, life in the harbour and delved into our two main characters' lives and their love for the game, knucklebones!
In History, we have explored a painting set in the Roman times but was painted over 2000 years after the event. Also, we explored a timeline to see what time periods happened when. We have shared a social story this week about our school trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace next week. Please take the time to read this at home too in preparation for the trip.
In reading, we have continued our book, Wildsmith: Into the Dark Forest. This week, we have practised our skimming and scanning, prediction, summarising and identifying language features skills. Our main character, Rowan, is now looking after a dragon that she found in the Dark Forest! Year 3 found this a very exciting addition to the storyline!
In maths, we have started the second part of our fractions learning. We have learnt how to add and subtract fractions, partition the whole and how to find a unit fraction of a set of objects.
In science, we have investigated how water is transported around a plant. We did this by putting a flower in some water with food colouring and observed the petals turn the same colour as the colouring.
We wish you all a great weekend!
The Year 3 Team.
