Year 4 Weekly Highlights 20.6.25

This half term we have embarked on one of our new but much loved projects centred on the exploration of Antarctica.   As the children progress through Shackleton's Journey, the focus was today on the ice tightening its grip on Endurance and eventually squeezing the ship until she slowly slipped into her watery grave.  The children are writing using the skill of personification to write as Endurance describing the events from the ship's perspective.  The writing is linked to the Reading with the children exploring the different perspectives of the events while geography investigates the climate and the landscape of this freezing location. .  Today the children had their first lesson of orienteering by creating faces with equipment after interpreting their maps.  This week the children have learnt about Energy and Emotional Regulation with the help of  Changeable Chimp and Steady Swan with neither being better but both having a role in the right situation.  Finally, the children learnt how to use tone by creating their own drawings of Ernest Shackleton in his grey pinstripe suit.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday morning at 9am for our English writing task when the children can benefit from the support of their adult in writing the final part of Endurance's journey.

Best wishes, The Year 4 Team.
