Year 4 Weekly Highlights 11.7.25
We started this week strong, by enjoying the year 6 performance of Lion King. The children and adults were so impressed by the brilliant acting, singing and staging. The year 4 children are already talking about when it’s their turn.
This week we have enjoyed our second transition session in our new classes. The children were very excited to see their year 5 teachers again and came back to us full of enthusiasm for next year!
Our 'Can we succeed against the odds?' project has continued through art, where the children have been studying the style of William Grill (author of Shackleton's Journey). The children will be going on to plan and create their own compositions in the style of William Grill, which we are looking forward to putting on display in the hall.
In English, we've been reading Emmanuel's Dream, discovering this amazing real-life story about a disabled athlete from Ghana. The children have agreed that there are many odds stacked against Emmanuel, such as the negative attitudes shown towards him by other people he encounters. We will go on to write letters from his perspective, persuading a charity for disabled athletes to donate him a bike. Will he succeed in achieving his dream, against all of those odds?
In reading, the children have been really enjoying Whale Boy. It is about a young boy in the Caribbean who has a few odds stacked against him, like Shackleton and Emmanuel. The book explores themes such as poverty, conservation and good versus evil. We are excited to find out what happens next!
We hope you have a brilliant weekend and that you all manage to keep relatively cool!
