Year 4 have been working hard on telling the time in maths this week. Please do help to reinforce their learning by asking your child to tell the time using different cloaks at home - they should be able to tell you using analogue, am/pm and 24 hour!

We've also kicked off our 2nd times tables tournament. Sycamore were the winners last time and will be trying to defend their title, while Birch and Prunus will be battling to take their crown! We would love to send home some more 'Gone Green' certificates during this time so please do encourage your child to practise regularly.

Our project this term is called: 'What is more important, the journey or the destination'. This has already led to some interesting discussions across different lessons. The children particularly enjoyed taking their tiny little people on amazing journeys through the school grounds!

Our writing unit focusing on the book 'Journey' has involved becoming immersed in this wonderful picture book, and building vocabulary and grammar skills ready to write the story as a narrative. We have been impressed with the similes and powerful verbs that the children have come up with so far.

Reading this term has been an opportunity to find out about refugees, via 'Yusra Swims' and 'The boy at the back of the class'. We will be looking in more detail at the journeys and destinations involved for people like Yusra throughout this unit.

In RE, we have thought about special journeys the children and family members have been on, and even mapped lots of your special journeys for display. We are then going on to look at pilgrimage. 

Geography has also involved the idea of 'journey' - so far we have zoomed in on North America and looked at the names of the countries and key geographical features. We will then go on to discover more about Canada.
