Year 5 Weekly Highlights
In English, we are learning about the wonderful book by Jenny Broom: The Wonder Garden! It is about Earth’s wonder garden and it explores 5 different habitats :The Amazon Rainforest, The Chihuahuan Desert and three others which we haven’t explored yet!
In Maths, we have learnt how to write decimals as decimal fractions on Monday. On Tuesday, we learnt to write hundredths as a decimal fraction and how to read and write fractions as decimal numbers. On Wednesday, we learnt how to read and write fractions as equivalent fractions.
In Reading, we wrote an email from the viewpoint of April to Granny Apples about her trip so far. She was summarising the events of her story including the boat trip, new house and exploration to find sight of a Polar Bear!
In Science, we have done an experiment about whether solids are soluble (dissolve) or insoluble (not dissolve) when added to water. We tested salt, gravy, flour, coffee, rice, sugar and sand.
In Games, we practised throwing and batting for rounders.
