Year 4 Weekly Highlights 24.6.22

There is absolutely no sign of slowing down in year 4 land and the time really feels like it is flying. Learning about time this week has been excellent with revision of reading analogue clocks, delving into 12 hour time and converting to 24-hour time. This is a skill that can be practised lots at home too with looking at clocks and watches, plus questions such as how long until dinner? When is bath time? What time do we need to leave today or what time can you get out of bed in the morning so that the adults can have a well-deserved lie in?

In English, we left Shackleton and the wreck of the Endurance behind to explore under the sea a little more. The children will be writing their own sea creature poems by imitating the structure of another poem. We have collected bags of rich vocabulary and even generated similes and alliteration to describe our turtles, manta rays and pufferfish.

Science and D&T have been electrifying, exploring circuits and making bulbs and buzzers work. Year 4 also explored conductors and insulators by investigating which materials would continue the flow of electricity and power the bulb. These skills will then be applied to their final D&T project of the year where they will design an alarm system to install around an exhibition at the British Museum.

We finish this week having explored a whole new world as year 6 pulled together the ends of the earth for their dress rehearsal of Aladdin. It was like a cave of wonders for year 4 who were left speechless at the efforts year 6 had made to be one jump ahead. They are excited to hone their acting skills from Beowulf when it is their turn to put on another show.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay comfortable in the heat of these Arabian nights!
