We’ve had another exciting and enriching week in Year 6, packed with learning, discovery, and a special visit that truly brought geography to life!

This week, we’ve been delving deep into the powerful text Erika's Story, using it to explore the skill of inference. The children have been carefully reading between the lines, picking up on clues in the text, and discussing the emotions, motivations, and experiences of the characters. It has sparked thoughtful conversations, and we’ve been so impressed by the empathy and maturity shown in our classroom discussions.

In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on addition and subtraction, celebrating the progress every child has made. We’re now moving on to a new focus: properties of number, where we’re exploring factors and multiples. The children have been busy identifying patterns and developing strategies to spot common factors and multiples – a key building block for future topics in number work.

A highlight of our week was welcoming Mr Patchell, who came in to share his incredible experiences from his travels in Iceland. His passion for volcanoes and earthquakes was contagious, and the children were fascinated by the real volcanic rocks he brought in from his adventures. He also talked about how the people of Iceland have adapted to living in such a geologically active environment, which linked beautifully to our geography work. It was a brilliant opportunity to see real-world applications of what we’re learning and ask lots of curious questions.
