Year 4 has been especially busy these last two weeks as we wrap up the spring 1 units and introduce the new units. The children were sad to finish Malala's magic pencil but absolutely loved learning about her journey and the themes of 'education for all' although some definitely liked the idea of having a magic pencil to draw things they would like to improve or take away, (like little brothers and sisters!). We have begun to explore the text Whale Boy this week and established that it is set on a sunny, sandy island, sadly not like England said Luca! In English, the children began reading the long anticipated text 'Beowulf'. Lots had heard from siblings how exciting this unit is and were enthralled by the battle as Beowulf fought the hideous, foul Grendel and defeated it. Exploring pneumatics in DT proved equally as exciting as the children created a moving dragon's mouth, inspired by the dinosaurs at Paulton's park, using just air. Look out for pictures on the website!

Next week we venture off site to St Martin's church for an RE lesson on Sacrifice on Tuesday and continue our work on fractions in maths. Continuing our work in English, we will look at playscripts ready to write our own playscript for Beowulf. Tuesday afternoon will be the Year 4 trip to the library so hopefully there will be lots of books to change - I will be racing to get my copy of Darwin's Dragons that Mrs Thomas says looks brilliant!
