Year 3 Weekly Highlights 16.5.25
We can’t believe that this half term is almost finished!
In English, we have begun our next writing unit on Poetry inspired by poet Roger McGough. We have begun to explore the structure of his poem and his language choices to use them as a model for our own poetry! We have been inspired by Roger McGough’s poem ‘The Sound Collector’ to write our own poem about the sounds we hear at different places.
In maths, we have brought our learning on money to an end. This week, we have learnt to add and subtract money, use money to answer problem solving questions and to find change when given an amount.
In reading, we are coming to the end of our book, Wildsmith. We have practised our skimming and scanning and summarising skills. Year 3 also wrote a letter in character as Rowan to Dad explaining all the adventures she has been on so far. We were impressed by Year 3’s knowledge of the book within their writing.
In history, we explored who the Roman Army were and what made them successful. We also looked at the armour that they wore.
Mrs Hartley launched our next Executive Functioning Skill, as part of the Empowerment Approach, in assembly on Monday. Year 3 have enjoyed practising their Working Memory by playing Kim’s games and guessing which object was missing.
We hope you all enjoy the sunshine over the weekend!
The Year 3 Team.
