Year 4 Weekly Highlights 19.9.25
The year 4 children have had an exciting week, which kicked off with planting potatoes! This was to launch our brand new writing unit in which the children will be writing their own instructions for planting potatoes.
The writing unit links with our new curriculum project 'Is there Enough for Everyone?'. Through our reading of 'The boy who harnessed the wind', we have found out more about life in Malawi, and noticed that there is not enough for everyone there. The children who are lucky enough to go to school are in huge classes of up to 100 children, and even have to share responsibilities such as keeping their school clean.
We began looking at where our food comes from in Geography, which will lead neatly into our farm trip on September 30th. We are very excited to take the year group on their first trip of year 4! Please do let us know if you are able to help us.
We have now shared all the year 4 homework expectations with the children.
To summarise:
- Spellings are on Google classroom – set every Friday, due the following Friday. These can be completed either online or written out on paper.
- Times tables homework sheets are also handed out and due on Fridays.
- All children are expected learn their times tables up to 12x12 by the end of year 4. To help them with this, the school has provided logins for all children to access Times Tables Rockstars games, which is a brilliant resource.
- Reading records completed (just book title, date and pages read – unless you wish to write more!) and handed in every Thursday.
We are very grateful for your support with this, and we will reward the children's efforts with house points.
Have a great weekend,
The Year 4 Team
