Year 4 Weekly Highlights 17.10.25

It's been another busy week in Year 4!

In maths, we have started our addition and subtraction unit by adding and subtracting 1s, 10s, 100, and 1000s and beginning to look at a range of mental strategies for adding and subtracting mentally. We are continuing to practise our times tables each day too - thank you for your continued support with the times tables homework and Times Tables Rockstars at home - it really does make such a difference to your child's speed, accuracy and confidence in maths. During next week's parents evening, we will share your child's heatmap with you, which will show you the tables that they are most and least confident with.

We have been incredibly impressed with the children's writing in English. They have been writing their first story of year 4 - a 1st person retelling of 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind'. The wonderful adjective choices and similes they have used have really helped bring their writing to life.

In reading, we are continuing to explore Cloud Tea Monkeys by getting to know the villain of the story - the bad tempered and greedy Overseer. The children have been practising the skills of inference and reading with intonation.

We're gearing up to make soup in our DT lessons, by considering the soup flavours we have enjoyed before, evaluating some soups in class and thinking about seasonality. We hope you enjoy sampling your child's home-made soup next week!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 4 Team
