Happy Friday!

 

It has been a bit of an assessment-based week in Year 4. However, the children have shown an excellent attitude towards showing us what they can do - Birch class actually cheered when they were told they would be doing a reading assessment! The teachers will then use those assessments to help us to inform our planning moving forward.

 

In maths, we had our end of unit assessment for addition and subtraction, and then began our new topic of multiplication and division. This is where all of that hard work on TTRS and completing times tables homework will really pay off for the children, so thank you for all of your support with those things. Those heat maps are definitely becoming greener! 

 

In English, we have been planning and writing a second text type based on Rosa Parks' story. After writing their first person speeches, the children are now needing to think in third person in order to write about Rosa's life and achievements. They will be focusing on using complex sentences, similes and paragraphing to write an engaging and descriptive account.

 

As part of our project 'How are our lives shaped?', we have been exploring the concept of Influence in our RE lessons by considering who influences us, whether influences are positive or negative, and how to manage those influences. In PE we have further developed our class dance by creating short pieces of group choreography. These will all slot into a longer dance that will tell a story about how various events shape a young boy's life. We've been really enjoying seeing the children's creativity and engagement with this dance unit so far.
