Year 3 Weekly Highlights 20.1.23
We cannot believe we are half way through this half term already.
We have loved our Inclusion Sports Day today. We were lucky enough to be joined by Personal Best Education and sports leaders from Mountbatten School. There were a range of activities for us try, such as golf, curling, archery and so much more.
WE CARE about wellbeing. In Year 3, we have really focused on the children's wellbeing - particularly since being back after Christmas. We have always encouraged the children to spread kindness and have promoted this since the start of the year. We have weekly class refection time and have listening boxes in each of our classrooms where the children are able to share any worries or highlights which we ensure we act upon regularly. We also have wellbeing Wednesday where our morning starter and PDL lessons are focused around wellbeing. There are lots of things we are doing in addition to this: golden mile, reading our class book, movement / brain breaks, mindfulness colouring, listening box and so much more! 3BC have also created a gratitude calendar for January where each day we include a refection about something that went well and/or something we are grateful for. We appreciate each individual and will continue to do our utmost to ensure your child feels happy and safe in school. As always, please do contact your child's class teacher if you have any concerns via the school office.
This week we have continued our work on the day the crayons quit. The children have really enjoyed delving deeper into this text and trying to think about the quality of our writing. We have learned about adding clauses to sentences through using subordinating conjunctions. There have been lots of opportunities to show our ambition skills this week with these tasks.
In addition, we have moved on to length and perimeter in maths. We have focused on using a ruler to measure in cm and mm. We have had to be precise and double-check our work so that we don't get tricked out. Well done for trying your best with this year 3 - we are looking forward to building on this learning next week.
You should have received a parent mail about our DT learning next week. It states:
In DT this half-term, we will be making a Salad Nicoise. We will purchase all the main ingredients for the children’s salads and will be tasting these on Friday 27th January. Please let us know if there are any additional allergies that we need to be aware of.
You should have received an exciting invitation via email shortly. I won't spoil the news on that one in case you haven't seen your email!
In RE, we have continued to build on ou ideas of God. The children have been so receptive and have shown compassion and understanding with each other, regardless of personal beliefs and practices.
Next week, as well as DT we will be doing music. If your child would like to bring in their instrument from home (except keyboards) then please do encourage them to bring them in on Friday 3rd February.
Just a reminder that we are a nut free school. It is vital that no products containing nuts are brought into school, this includes peanut butter, chocolate and nut spreads and any cereal bars or treat bars with nuts in. We have had incidents of this over the past week, and we would really appreciate your help moving forward.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
