Year 3 Weekly Highlights 21.3.25
Year 3’s highlight from this week has been making our animal soft toys as part of our DT lessons. We have all enjoyed using the running stitch to create either a Rhino or Bee to bring together our learning from across our project. We can’t wait to share these with you at our project outcome on Wednesday 2nd April at 2pm!
In English, we have started to summarise all our knowledge about Bees and have started to write a Guide about Bees. In this guide, we are going to be writing about why bees are important, why bees are in danger and what we can do to help. We have used some of our knowledge that we learnt last week from our Beekeeper visitor, Becca Hall as well as reading different texts in lessons to enrich our understanding further.
In maths, we have continued our mass and capacity unit. This week, we have applied our understanding of ‘equivalence’ to mass and capacity by finding equivalent masses between grams and kilograms. We have then used this learning to compare masses and to add and subtract masses.
Year 3 all wrote a letter as The Lorax to The Once-ler in our reading lessons this week. They used their knowledge of the text as well as knowledge from across our curriculum project to share with The Once-ler why cutting trees was wrong and what he should do in the future. Year 3 impressed us with their style of writing and sharing their ideas as The Lorax. We have also practised our reading fluency skills, inference skills and unpicked the language choices that the author has chosen to use.
We look forward to meeting with you all and discussing your children’s progress at parents evening next week!
We wish everyone a great weekend!
The Year 3 Team.
