Year 4 Weekly Highlights8.9.23
We were delighted and very excited to welcome our new cohort of children on Tuesday. We all stood hovering in our doorways, ready to hear all about the children's summer breaks and to reassure those who were feeling a little anxious about the changes. Very quickly, anyone passing would have thought these wonderful children had been with us for ages as they embraced their new setting and were enthusiastically showing their great learning behaviour. Tuesday was the day to explore the site and observe the changes to the building while familiarising ourselves with the routes around the school. In English we introduced our new topic themed around the BFG and wrote some sentences about our observations. On Wednesday we began our topic on Place Value and began recalling our knowledge on the value of each digit and the different ways we can represent different numbers. On Thursday, we had our first session of Street Dance at the Sports Centre which was brilliant, mostly because it had aircon and was therefore much cooler than our warm classrooms. Mitch, our Street Dance teacher, was really enthusiastic and we managed our first few dance moves. In geography, we have begun our first unit on fieldwork which is focused on the school grounds and Hiltingbury and links nicely to our trip to Hocombe Mead in the next few weeks.
Spellings will be on Google Classroom this week ready for a test next Friday 15th September.
Please remind the children to add details of what they have read, (date, title & author, & page) and any comments if they want together with lots of regular reading. Reading records are marked on a Thursday.
Times tables - continuing on their work in Year 3 please practise their tables daily. Tests are on a Friday.
It has been a wonderful start to the year but please do let us know if you have any questions or queries.
Best wishes for a relaxing weekend.
