Year 4 Weekly Highlights 15.9.23
The children are definitely getting into the swing of year 4 now! We’ve had our first piece of independent writing based on the BFG this week, which the children are all really enjoying! We’ve also been practising writing simple and compound sentences using the context of the book. In Art we are continuing to practise our drawing and sketching skills in the style of Quentin Blake, ready to illustrate some WANTED posters that we’ll be working on over the next week or so.
In Maths we have revised some Year 3 place value before moving on to rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, as well as counting in 1000s and understanding the value of each digit in those numbers.
We’ve been practising grid references in Geograohy and learning about Eastings and Northings on OS maps, as well as exploring our school and local area using Google Maps.
There have been exciting times this week with the announcements of the new pupil voice group representatives. All the children trying out have done a great job of presenting their speeches to the class and we’re proud of them all.
It’s really working well having the children come to school in their PE kits on PE days. Remember, the current days for PE are Wednesday and Thursday.
Reading records are to be handed in on Thursdays please, and Fridays are for handing in spelling homework. Your child’s TTRS logins will come home this week so do start practising - the aim is for everyone to know all their tables up to 12x12 by May half term and little and often is the way to do it if you can. Also, try to build on conversations about telling the time on analogue clocks so that your children can tell the time to the nearest minute. It’s such a useful life skill. It won’t come up in school for a while but it’s something we can all talk about with our children in daily life to prepare them.
Thanks so much for your continuing support. Have a fabulous weekend.
