Year 4 Weekly Highlights 15.3.24

We missed our wonderful classes on Monday as we buried ourselves in planning our first project for the summer term.  Having the opportunity to be creative and imaginative is a real treat and we are now busy researching lots of great experiences and activities to ensure the children are fully immersed in the challenges of our famous explorer!  

 

This has been another busy week in the classroom with the children developing their understanding of fractions.  After finding fractions of amounts, we have added and subtracted fractions within a whole, before today exploring mixed number fractions with the use of images of pizzas.  We will then progress to adding and subtracting beyond a whole.  In English, the children have been totally hooked by Michael's adventures sailing around the world, although we were all a bit nervous when Stella fell overboard today.  Thankfully she was saved .... this time!  We are building towards our next writing task to debate whether Michael's parents should have take Michael out of school to sail around the world for a year.  A very tricky decision.  Mummification was the topic this week in history and the Ancient Egyptians' beliefs in the afterlife.  The children's recollection of the steps required was amazing and the gory bits especially detailed! In the photos you will see that we are now learning about electricity ready for our DT project to build an alarm system to protect the Rosetta Stone. Please look out for any old shoe boxes at home!

 

Next week is Parents' Evenings on Monday and Wednesday. Please check you have booked your appointment and, as always, we look forward to seeing you and sharing so many positive moments.  As listed on the calendar, Thursday 28th March is 4S's opportunity to perform a concert on the ukulele.  We hope to see as many parents as possible.

 

As we edge towards the Multiplication Check in June, we continue to practice our times tables at school but appreciate the regular practice at home.  During our work on fractions, times table knowledge has of course proved invaluable.  Please do check their heat maps on TTRS so you can target those tables that remain a bit tricky for your child.
