Year 4 Weekly Highlights 19.4.24
What a super week to start the new term!
We had some tired children on Monday after a busy Easter break, but Ben from Treehouse Theatre certainly woke them up on Tuesday with our Egyptian play in a day! The children spent the day immersed in Ancient Egyptian history, culminating in a final play in the afternoon that was both hilariously entertaining and packed full of historical information from how mummies are made, to Egyptian farming and to Tutankhamun and Cleopatra. We had many super costumes on the day. If you know that you will no longer need your child's Egyptian costume, then in order to promote sustainability and support other families we will gratefully collect any unwanted good condition Egyptian costumes in school to lend out to children in the future.
During the final performance, teachers were looking out for any potential stars because this week we have also started our Beowulf unit in English. This unit leads into a performance for parents of this epic Anglo Saxon saga and the children are already loving this adventure story full of heroes and evil monsters.
In maths, our fractions topic has now finished and it has been wonderful to see the fluency and confidence with which children now calculate with a range of fractions and mixed numbers. We are very proud of them. Our next topic is time. This can be tricky for some children so please can we put out a plea for some parental support with this one? Do you have an analogue clock at home that your child can see? Just simply asking them on a regular basis what time it is will really help. There are also some links to online time games on Google classroom. Year 4 children should be able to tell the time to the nearest minute eg twenty six minutes to eight. We will, of course, support children who aren't at that stage yet.
Many of you are already really supporting your children at home with times tables to supplement our work in school and we are really seeing the impact of this now. There is some fantastic progress, with children really keen to talk about how green their heatmap is becoming. Keep up the good work, year 4!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
