Year 4 Weekly Highlights 3.5.24
Year 4 enjoyed an exciting and exhausting week which began with a wonderful trip to Butser Ancient Farm. Despite a cool wind, the sun shone while the children made wattle and daub fences, excavated artefacts, wrote letters with their own home made quills and explored homes from the iron age, to Romans and then the Anglo Saxons. The children discovered how wee was used to colour clothes and how important the fire was for cooking, light and heat. In maths, the children have continued to develop their skills on time with converting 12 hour to 24 hour and back before today converting seconds to minutes in practical contexts. Please continue to use clocks at home to work out the time and how long you will be/have taken to carry out activities. How many different ways can you describe different times? The children are extremely excited to be writing the play script for their performance of Beowulf and details of the performance will be announced shortly. Auditions for main roles will hopefully take place this week with everyone having the opportunity to perform on the stage. In history, the children have been investigating the bodiless ship in Sutton Hoo and trying to work out which Anglo Saxon king it might have belonged to while in art the children have made a start on painting their Hundertwasser inspired landscapes with watercolours. Please continue to support your child reading Harklights or ask what is happening as the action heats up. Times tables continue to be an important skill with children calculating how many seconds are in 4 minutes and similar 6 times table calculations.
Thank you again for all your support. Best wishes Y4 team.
