Year 4 Weekly Highlights 11.10.24
It has been another busy week in Year 4. Sycamore class and half of Birch class thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Bolderwood on Tuesday, in spite of the weather! We found out a lot of interesting facts about the plants and animals that can be found in the New Forest and enjoyed experiencing the beautiful landscape for ourselves. The New Forest team were incredibly impressed with the children's listening skills, thoughtful questions and impeccable behaviour. Meanwhile, Prunus class and the other half of Birch class had a great day in school, immersed in creating Dream Jars and 'feel good' bunting. We look forward to swapping activities on 22nd October!
In English we have continued to explore Jack and the Beanstalk by thinking about how Jack would have felt about selling his beloved cow, acquiring magic beans and his mother angrily throwing them away. Children then wrote diary entries as if they were Jack, using all of their grammar and vocabulary skills learnt so far.
We have started a new topic in maths: addition and subtraction. This will be an opportunity for the children to revise prior learning, but in the context of larger numbers. We will continue to use physical resources and pictures to support and deepen their knowledge.
Thank you for supporting your children with getting into good homework habits. We have noticed that many children are now regularly handing in their spelling, filling in their reading records and practising on TTR. This will hugely support their learning in school.
Have a great weekend,
The Year 4 Team
