Year 4 Weekly Highlights 7.3.25
It has been an eventful week in Year 4. We have had the excitement of World Book Day where we all enjoyed seeing the different costumes and reading a range of books. We started with reading Harklights and really exploring evidence within the text which we then used to back up our ideas about some of the key characters. Some children came up with excellent, thoughtful responses such as, 'I think Papa Herne is very thoughtful. He is afraid of the monster but he is a leader and so does not want his people to worry. He locks his feelings inside to stay calm for them.'
Lots of the children have had the opportunity to enter the National World Book Day 'Design a Book Token' competition. They have brought their designs home and all the details on how to enter can be found on the National Book Tokens website https://www.worldbookday.com/competition/design-a-nbt/ There is the opportunity to win £350 of book tokens for the school but also £100 of book tokens for themselves. All classes have also been involved in drama workshops exploring the theme of talking about our feelings. This began with a poem as a stimulus and some great drama performances were enjoyed - lots of expression and fun!
There have been plenty of other things to get our teeth into this week. In Maths, we have continued with fractions progressing onto equivalent fractions. We have also had our Beowulf auditions and it has been brilliant watching the children perform. We are proud of every child who decided to try out. Children have been learning about the features of playscripts too - ready to write their own Beowulf play based on the story we are reading in class. We will enjoy incorporating the children's work into our play!
