Year 5 Weekly Highlights 16.9.22
Space and belonging are just two of the new topics that Year 5 have started this week. Each class have begun their Space topic and have been exploring the use of models. Using toilet rolls and pictures of fruit, the Year 5 children built a model of the solar system mapping the distances between the planets. Scaling the solar system down to 1:50,000,000km, the children were surprised how close the inner planets are to each other and the sun- compared to our furthest outer planet Neptune.
In English this week, we finished our unit on the Unsung hero by writing a letter to him, from the viewpoint of a character from the video. We hope that the unit has inspired the children to be an Unsung hero and help others around them. Towards the end of the week, be began our second unit of English; the poem The listeners written by Walter de la Mare. This classic poem was written over 100 years ago. It has provoked a mysterious mood around the year! We look forward to delving deeper into this wonderful poem.
In maths we have continued our journey in place value exploring hundred thousand numbers. Our week was finished off by looking at the RE topic of belonging. It was wonderful to see all the children's items that they had brought to share with the rest of the class.
We wish you a relaxing weekend.
