Year 5 Weekly Highlights 2.2.22
Year 5 have had a busy week this week continuing with their Mayan related units. In history, the children discovered that archeologists are not sure of the reasons surrounding the demise of Mayan civilisation. From over farming, to natural disaster and wars between the cities, the Mayans over a period of 200 years left and abandoned their cities. Ask your child what they decided the most likely solution was.
In Design and Technology the children have made paper patterns this week of their Mayan doll clothing. This is no easy task. The children used their measuring skills to accuracy make the templated of the clothing out of paper and then cut around their template on cloth. next week we are hoping to sew them and add hair. If you have any spare black wool at home that you will not use, we would gladly received any donations.
A highlight for all classes this week was a visit from Tom Hepworth, BBC South today journalist. Speaking about how he acquires information about news stories, he guided us through the types of questions he asks in order to gain the right facts for his reports. Inspired by his ideas, the children took on the role of a journalist and performed a mini report in front of the camera.
We hope you have a great weekend.
