Year 5 Weekly Highlights 09.12.22
The warm Christmas feeling hit year 5 today as we came in our array of fabulous jumpers. It was lovely to see all the different styles and twinkles throughout the morning ending in our delicious Christmas dinner.
We were fortunate this week to have been visited by members of the Apollo 13 moon expedition ( or was it Mrs Richardson in disguise). Fred Haise, Peter Carolan , Marilyn Lovell, and Gene Kranz were grilled by Year 5 pupils with wonderful enquiring questions the Apollo 13 mission. The quotes from our visitors will be published in their newspaper articles they will be writing in the following days.
In Science this week we began our new topic on forces. Drawing on our knowledge of gravit,y we looked at how forces move objects to change speed, slow down or change direction. The children explored a range of objects and using scientific drawings labelled the forces acting on them.
Our Mayans dolls are progressing nicely. This week the children cut their cloth, patterned their dolls clothing and began to sew.
This week we also started our Religious Education topic on warnings, referring to the Magi's response to warning in the Christian Christmas story.Over the next week, the children will explore the concept of warnings in a religious context and how go on to apply this in their own lives.
We hope you have a lovely weekend. Wrap up warm. We look forward to welcoming you into the classroom on Wednesday after school.
