Year 6 Weekly Highlights 2.2.22
What have we been doing in year 6 this week?
In English, we wrote our final outcome of our letter to the Prime Minister as Leonard / Grace / Marie protesting against racial attacks and discrimination, with the aim to free the Windrush generation, who were arrested for ‘‘illegally’’ living in Britain. On Wednesday, we learnt about our new book which is The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. On Thursday we learnt about passive and active voice sentences.
In Maths, we have continued learning about converting units of measurements and time. We’ve also started on converting imperial measurements (specifically miles into kilometres).
During our Reading this week, we’ve continued with the book “The Giant’s Necklace”, and started comparing themes within different parts of a text.
We also did science this week, about if the numbers of single cells affect the intensity and how long it can last throughout time. We also learnt about scatter graphs and plotting it in science paper - we were visited by one of the science teachers from Thornden.
Also this week, in Geography, we’ve started on 6-figure grid references, which is useful for finding out specific destinations throughout a one kilometre by kilometre square and making it smaller to 100m X 100m .
