Year 6 Weekly Highlights 11.10.24

In Year 6 this week, we have enjoyed celebrating Mental Health Day. Alongside time for reflection and our all important postcard of the week, we loved the chance to be mindful and creative - producing our very own bauble competition entries for Hilliers Light Up Trail. As you will see from the photos, we producing some stunning designs! Watch this space to find out if any of our designs make it onto their illuminated baubles at the Christmas light show...

A real highlight this week was starting our new text Erika's story and this has kept us all highly engaged. We've read the text as readers, using read aloud, think alouds to draw meaning from the text and we've used the story as a springboard to recap our understanding of speech punctuation too. We cannot wait until next week when we have the opportunity to write from the mother's viewpoint, drawing upon our understanding of strength, resilience and adversity (our project concepts) to really empathise with the story and its characters.

In reading, we've questioned how authors build tension in a text and we have had to work hard as readers, really considering the details and evidence in a text which helps to do this.  Next week we are looking forward to reading lots more of the text, as we head towards our conclusion with this brilliant book!
