Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium was introduced in 2011 and is believed to be the best way to address the current underlying inequalities by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most. It is aimed at closing the attainment gap between children from vulnerable families and their peers.

It is allocated to schools to support pupils eligible for Free School Meals, or who have received Free School Meals at any point in the last 6 years (known as Ever 6 funding). It is also awarded for children in care, or who have left care e.g through adoption. The Service Pupil premium is a smaller grant to support armed forces families and is primarily intended to support pastoral needs.

We would encourage you to investigate if your child is eligible for the free meal, and the Pupil Premium funding that comes with this.

Headteachers and school leaders should decide how to use the Pupil Premium to meet the particular needs of their pupils, and will also be held accountable for the difference it makes.
