The Hiltingbury Schools Speech & Language Centre -Resourced Provision Centre

The Hiltingbury Schools Speech and Language Centre is an inclusive Resourced Provision for up to 12 children aged between 4 and 11, who have an EHCP for Special Educational Needs, with speech and language as the primary area of need identified (e.g. developmental language disorder, speech sound disorder, verbal dyspraxia - NOT social communication disorder / ASC). We are based across Hiltingbury Infant and Junior Schools.

Mrs Anna Scarr is the Resourced Provision Manager, and she is supported by seven Special Needs Assistants (Mrs Jo Rimmer, Miss Kerry Elkins, Mrs Morgan, Ms Wallace, Mrs Cavuoto, Mrs Howe and Mrs Mugford). Mrs Stephanie Day, Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) who is specially designated by NHS Solent, visits on Tuesdays to work with children who are part of the Resourced Provision.

Our provision is fully inclusive, meaning that as well as having a place within the Resourced Provision, children will have a place in Hiltingbury Infant School or Hiltingbury Junior School, and will be a full member of a class within the school. Both schools are fully committed to the effective inclusion of the Resourced Provision’s pupils into the life of the mainstream schools, whilst promoting and encouraging an ethos of personal achievement, confidence and independence.

“The change in [my daughter] is amazing, and it is all down to you and the amazing staff within the Resourced Centre. She is so ready for Year 1.” - Year R Parent

“I have felt absolutely certain that [my daughter] is going to school every day to a place that sees what she can do and opens up the world to her.” - Year 1 Parent

“[My son] was in the Resourced Provision at Hiltingbury from Year R, and transitioned with the provision into Juniors. We fell in love with Hiltingbury due to the diligent, caring nature of all the staff, especially the Resourced Provision... I honestly could not recommend this school enough for any child that needs extra support. The whole team are a pleasure to interact with, and I am so grateful to them for the support and help they showed [my son]  and us to navigate the unknown. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

Our Team

Inclusion:

Our aim is to reduce, overcome or break down barriers so that every child is effectively supported in their learning journey towards independence and adulthood. Our model of working is fully inclusive, so children who are given a place in the Resourced Provision attend either Hiltingbury Infant or Junior School. They will be a part of a mainstream class (supported by a specialist SNA), and will take part in the full life of the school in much the same way as any other pupil. There are some differences, but we aim for these to be as  discrete as possible. We are continually supporting and promoting language rich, communication friendly opportunities and environments across the schools.

Admissions:

We provide a fully inclusive provision for children who have an Education and Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and whose primary need is related to Speech, Language and Communication.

Hampshire Local Authority is responsible for the funding and the placement of children attending Hiltingbury Resourced Provision, although admission decisions are made in consultation with parents, education and health professionals. Upon entry, children within Hiltingbury Resourced Provision are on NHS SaLT Care pathways and our provision, support and placements are continually reviewed alongside a key professional.

Contact:

We welcome enquiries and visits from both parents and education settings, and will be happy to answer your questions and signpost you in the right direction if you are considering a referral for a child.
