The Hiltingbury Schools Speech & Language Centre -Resourced Provision Centre
The Hiltingbury Schools Speech and Language Centre is an inclusive Resourced Provision for up to 12 children aged between 4 and 11, who have an EHCP for Special Needs, with speech and language as the primary area of need identified. We are based across Hiltingbury Infant and Junior Schools.
Who We Are:
We are a Resourced Provision offering 12 placements for pupils with significant speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN) as their primary need (i.e developmental language disorder or significant speech sound difficulties). We are based across Hiltingbury Infant and Junior Schools, and are staffed by a Specialist SEN Teacher, 6 Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), and a part-time Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT). Our current expertise includes: Blank-level questioning, teaching vocabulary, colour coded grammar, shape coding, the development of attention and listening skills, use of Cued Articulation, Makaton, modelling and delivering speech programmes and narrative therapy. We work closely alongside other professionals, such as OT, Physio and the School Nurse team, taking a multi-agency and child focused approach.
Our Team
Inclusion:
Our aim is to reduce, overcome or break down barriers so that every child is effectively supported in their learning journey towards independence and adulthood. Our model of working is fully inclusive, so children who are given a place in the Resourced Provision attend either Hiltingbury Infant or Junior School. They will be a part of a mainstream class (supported by a specialist SNA), and will take part in the full life of the school in much the same way as any other pupil. There are some differences, but we aim for these to be as discrete as possible. We are continually supporting and promoting language rich, communication friendly opportunities and environments across the schools.
Admissions:
We provide a fully inclusive provision for children who have an Education and Healthcare Plan (EHCP) and whose primary need is related to Speech, Language and Communication.
Hampshire Local Authority is responsible for the funding and the placement of children attending Hiltingbury Resourced Provision, although admission decisions are made in consultation with parents, education and health professionals. Upon entry, children within Hiltingbury Resourced Provision are on NHS SaLT Care pathways and our provision, support and placements are continually reviewed alongside a key professional.
Contact:
We welcome enquiries and visits from both parents and education settings, and will be happy to answer your questions and signpost you in the right direction if you are considering a referral for a child.
